Grief Is Not What You Expect: What Doesn’t Help—and What Actually Does

Grief is strange.

Not poetic-strange. Not “beautiful journey through loss” strange.

I mean genuinely strange.

You can be devastated and hungry. You can laugh at something stupid ten minutes after crying. You can feel nothing at all and wonder what is wrong with you. You can miss someone desperately and also feel relief. You can function beautifully for three months and then become completely undone because you found their handwriting on an old grocery list.
